Why Prices Vary So Much

  • What “TMJ treatment” means. Pearl notes the term can cover anything from a custom splint of about $400 to multi-phase bite work over $10,000.
  • Night guard or splint. Pearl separates a basic night guard from a custom stabilization splint, which costs more and includes follow-up adjustments.
  • Dental or medical insurance. Pearl says coverage is highly variable: some dental plans cover splints, some exclude TMJ, and some care is billed to medical insurance.
  • Who you see. A dentist, oral surgeon or physical therapist each prices their own services. Compare like with like.

A Note On Botox

Some providers offer Botox for jaw clenching. Cleveland Clinic says the FDA has not yet approved Botox for use in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders. When a provider lists a Botox price, we show it exactly as stated and say nothing about results.
